Aging-in-Place Design and Remodeling in Southern NH and Northeastern MA

"Blackdog Design/Build/Remodel recently completed a comprehensive renovation of our home. Overall, we had a positive experience. The project finished ahead of schedule and took about a year from start to finish. We chose Blackdog because of their experience with full-scale renovations. Our designer, Ron, has a background as a carpenter, which was helpful during the design phase. He understood both the design side and the practical construction side, and our meetings with him were always productive. He also suggested a few aging-in-place features, like grab bars and crank windows. During the design process, we needed to select tile and grout for the bathrooms and kitchen. We went next door to FloorMe and worked with Jamie. She was very patient and helped us compare grout colors so they matched well with the floor tiles, wall tiles, and backsplashes. Once construction started, communication stayed strong. Our lead carpenter, Mark, provided daily progress updates and photos, which made it easy to keep track of what was happening. Mark’s carpentry skills are excellent, and he was able to complete tasks efficiently and with great attention to detail. Our project manager, Jason, handled scheduling and coordination with the various trades. The MEP contractors hired by Blackdog to work on the house were professional and skilled.

A renovation like this involves a lot of moving parts, but the team kept things moving and ultimately delivered a house we are happy with. It’s been great finally settling into the finished space. Overall, we would recommend Blackdog to homeowners in New England looking for an experienced design-build firm for a major renovation."

"Blackdog just completed a complete remodel of our master bathroom, including expansion into an adjacent closet. We were extremely pleased with the entire process, including the numerous hours that Melissa spent with us on the optimal layout and design. She carefully listened to all our wishes while providing additional creative ideas and alternatives, and helped us in picking out matching tiles, flooring, etc. There are so many options that it can be overwhelming, but Melissa streamlined it all into a manageable process.

Our project manager, Bree, was just outstanding. She planned out the entire project so it was completed very efficiently with no unexpected delays. The lead carpenter was very talented and kept the work area organized and clean throughout the process. The subcontractors that Bree engaged were always on time, and their work was of the highest quality, particularly the flooring and tile guys. This is the third project (bathrooms, kitchen, addition, etc) that Blackdog has completed for us over the last 20 years, and we have always been pleased with the outcome.

While they may not be the lowest cost provider, you generally get what you pay for in home improvements, and Blackdog’s inclusive process leads to great design, quality craftsmanship, and very few, if any, surprises along the way. We would highly recommend Blackdog for all of your home improvement needs."
