A Kitchen Designed Around the Details

Written by Blackdog Builders | Sep. 18, 2026

Nestled in nature, this New Hampshire home was the perfect place for the homeowner to watch birds and other little critters from the windows. But the original kitchen layout resulted in pinch-points and work zones that were not well defined or supported for daily use. At Blackdog Design/Build/Remodel, we helped the homeowners transform the space with a combination of crisp white and deep green cabinetry, natural wood tones, and softly veined stone, giving the kitchen and butler pantry an organic quality that feels comfortable alongside those views.

Building the Design Around a Clear Vision

The project began with a clear cabinetry direction: inset Shaker doors, substantial island and cabinetry extending all the way up to the ceiling. From there, the design evolved into a cohesive palette built around crisp white, Sherwin-Williams Succulent Green, warm driftwood hickory, and softly veined quartz.

Custom Cabinetry

Along the kitchen perimeter, inset Shaker cabinetry painted white creates a clean, timeless backdrop. Extending the cabinets to the ceiling gives the room a more tailored, built-in appearance while making full use of the vertical space.

At the center of the kitchen, the island introduces Sherwin-Williams Succulent Green, a color that becomes one of the defining elements of the overall design. Rather than limiting the green to a single focal point, it's woven throughout the space, on the oven hood and within the adjoining butler pantry.

Custom behind-the-door storage solutions were incorporated throughout the kitchen and butler pantry to support various drop and work zones, and to keep frequently used items organized and accessible, while out of sight.

Surfaces that Create a Seamless Look

The countertops and backsplash are designed to read as one continuous surface, with COMPAC Unique Calacatta quartz used for both. The visual continuity from countertop to full-height backsplash creates a seamless transition between counters and upper cabinetry. With fewer joints and grout lines, full-height backsplash offers the practical benefit of being easier to maintain in a frequently used kitchen.

Thoughtful Fixtures & Accents

A contemporary Delta pot filler in stainless steel was installed at the cooking zone, providing a convenient water source and reducing the need to carry heavy pots across the kitchen.

Warm driftwood hickory accents at the hood mantel and butler's pantry shelving add another natural note, softening the contrast between the white and green and bringing warmth and texture into the palette.

Grounding the Space

Underfoot, PureGrain Nurture luxury vinyl plank flooring brings warmth and natural movement to the kitchen and adjoining spaces while providing a durable foundation for heavily trafficked spaces and two dogs.
