Transforming a Traditional Space into an Open Concept Haven in Andover, MA
The original layout featured a traditionally segmented first floor, alongside an awkwardly open space at the back. The initial kitchen was small and dark. We removed the kitchen and opened the back and end wall of the kitchen to a new addition for an open concept family room and kitchen. We removed the wall around the stairs in the kitchen and removed a closet in the front hall for better flow from the front to the back of the home.
The new layout flows better throughout and is a better use of space with the combined space from the new addition. The open concept in the back of the home has more natural light and with a mix of materials and textures became not only a sophisticated space, but a warm and inviting space for family and entertaining.
A new entry from the garage offers a cleverly designed space for unloading and storage, strategically positioned just out of sight from the new kitchen and open living area. Additionally, the laundry room serves as a dog spa, boasting ample storage with tall cabinets located just steps from the laundry and dog spa area.
